Believe me, I don't want to! It'll be like when Sammy left Dean and walked away down the road and hitchiked and then ended up in a bus station with Creedence playing and then he met Meg and it was all EVOL and stuff!! TOTALLY!! (except with fewer demons and less throat-slitting)

I'll be back, fear not. With a lappy that actually, you know, functions, I hope.

I've got RtME to read, and I'm heading to the library right now to pick up all of the George R.R. Martin 'Song of Ice and Fire' books, so I'll have something to do this week. THOSE bastids will keep me occupied for a while! You ever read those? They're really pretty amazing.

Functioning lappy would be fantastic. Maybe it is unhappy at not having a name? If it doesn't have one, give it one nao!! That should make it happy, and maybe it'll work then. hehe

I've seen them around, but I've never actually read them. What are they about?

Thanks for the text offer! You're sweet. I have to admit, though, that I don't even have a cellphone. Or a phone at all, for that matter. I despise telephones...they seem like an invasion of my privacy, or something. Yeah, I'm freakin' bizzare. I know it.

YOU RULE!!! Naming lappy is EXACTLY what I need to do! (my rusty old red pickup truck is named Gertrude after Hamlet's mother. why, I don't know) Lappy is black and has a "Ah, curse your sudden yet inevitable betrayal" bumper sticker on the front. Heh. WHAT SHOULD I NAME HER?

The 'Song' books are fairly traditional fantasy, done really really well. Emphasis is more on politics of power than magic. ENORMOUSLY complex books. They're huge, five books so far, two more to come. Martin drives forward at least a half-dozen plots at any one time, each of them full of machiavellian machinations, each of them with dozens of characters. Very complex societies, lots of variation, lots of detail. Fantastic, three-dimensional characters, some of which you grow to deeply love, others of which are fabulously complicated villains.

It's the kind of series you start when you want to completely lose yourself in a really complicated story for a really long time. Great stuff!
